It’s been a while

So, what’s been going on around here? Looking for a house to rent, putting up with the neighbors until then. I had my gall bladder removed yesterday, and I’m still recovering from that. Fun times. I finally took the plunge and signed up on twitter. My name over there is bethbny.
I’m taking a couple of classes this semester, and I’m taking the Civil Service exam for Tax Technician Trainee in April.
I made it through the first round of Sock Madness, pics are over on Flickr.

Unemployed, again…

And I didn’t quit this time. I got laid-off/downsized/whatever you want to call it. At least we hadn’t gotten used to the extra money yet, and we were good and paid down some credit cards. Not the best way to start off the new year, but it could be worse. I think the thing that bugs me the most is that I didn’t get to go home for Christmas, and didn’t get to spend the time with Shane. All things considered, I’m not too bothered by it, though. I’m looking for other jobs, not that there are many out there. It looks like there is a civil service exam coming up soon that I am qualified for - Tax Technician Trainee 1. Otherwise, I’ll just keep going to school, and maybe actually do something with my Etsy shop.

New Year Diving

We finally got back in the water, after a too-long hiatus. All things considered, it was an excellent dive. We went to Mandana Bay on Lake Skaneatles (pronounced Skinny Atlas - don’t ask me). The water was clear, although we have the zebra mussels to thank for that one. The water temp was about 35 F or 40 F, but the air temp was about 20 F. They call it Frozen Fin for a reason. It was definitely nice to get back in the water.

We made it!

I officially survived my first real winter storm. We were relatively lucky - we only lost power for about a day. I’ve never seen ice create this sort of destruction. There are trees uprooted, and split in half. I’ve seen large branches on houses. I’ve heard stories about trees in houses and crushing cars. It’s the sort of thing you might see after a tornado or a small hurricane. All very odd. Power is slowly being restored.
You know what is really annoying? First, when you approach an intersection where the traffic signal is out, you treat it as a four way stop. How hard is that, people? Second, the city can hook up generators to traffic signals. Why are generators not hooked up to every signal on the main thoroughfares, particularly at major intersections? Grrr.

Not a loser

My economics professor, Papa Gueye. He saw my wallet and took it back to his office for safe keeping. :) I still don’t have any credit or debit cards, but at least I have my phone back. :D

Such a loser…

Uggh. Today, I lost my wallet. My pretty Vera Bradley Zip wallet, with all my credit cards and debit cards, my driver’s license, and my shiny new cell phone. I’m holding out hope that the person that found it is not an utter jerk and will turn it in. I’m not completely naive, of course. I did already cancel the cards. I haven’t done anything with the phone yet, I’m going to try to call it again tomorrow, and check at the security desk at school. I do still have my old cell phone, which isn’t bad, and I can use that one until I get the replacement. blech. I think I may go lay down. My head is killing me from spending an hour and a half on the phone.

Still Knitting, of course!

But no pics today - it’s mostly custom orders. I am, however, working on the lovely Lissajous socks from Twist Collective in Alpaca Sox. Hopefully I’ll finish them while it’s still winter.
